As a blogger, one of the biggest challenges isn’t writing, it’s figuring out what to write about.
Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m circling the same topics. SEO tips, content ideas, monetization strategies, they’re all useful, but I needed a shake-up. A fresh perspective. So instead of sitting in front of my laptop waiting for inspiration, I’ve decided to go out and look for it.
That’s why I’m taking a content-focused trip, right here in Shanghai.
Over the next few days, I’ll be visiting seven different spots in this incredible city. Each location brings a unique vibe, a new set of observations, and a blogging topic I want to explore. Sometimes, changing your environment is all you need to spark your next big idea.
Here’s where I’m going, and what I plan to write about after each stop.
1. Xintiandi – How to Blend Personal Branding with Visual Storytelling
Walking through Xintiandi feels like stepping into a curated Instagram feed. The mix of historic Shikumen architecture and modern cafes gave me the idea to write about how your blog’s design and personal brand should tell a story, just like a neighborhood does.
I’ll share visual examples, layout tips, and how to make your blog feel like “you” from the first scroll.
2. The Bund – How to Write Blog Posts That Stand the Test of Time
The skyline across the Huangpu River always reminds me of the importance of legacy content. Just like those iconic buildings, some blog posts are built to last.
At the Bund, I’ll reflect on which blog formats bring long-term traffic and share strategies for creating evergreen posts that rank for years.
3. People’s Square – Mastering the Art of Audience Engagement
This busy hub of activity made me think about how readers interact with blog content. From commuters moving through subway stations to tourists snapping photos in the park, everyone’s engaged in their own way.
I’ll write a post about how to use calls to action, interactive elements, and comment prompts to keep your blog audience coming back.
4. M50 Art District – How Creative Blogging Formats Can Set You Apart
There’s something wild and refreshing about the art studios and graffiti walls of M50. It made me realize blogging doesn’t always have to be step-by-step guides or listicles.
I’ll be writing about creative post formats, visual blog series, audio embeds, and mixed media to make your content stand out and reflect your personality.
5. Fuxing Park – Why Taking Breaks Actually Makes You a Better Blogger
As I sit on a park bench and watch people dance, do tai chi, or sip tea in the morning sun, I’ll write about the importance of rest.
It might sound counterintuitive, but stepping away from your blog once in a while helps avoid burnout and often brings your best ideas. I’ll explore how rest, walks, and even small local trips can reset your creativity.
6. Tianzifang – How to Find Your Blog’s Niche in a Crowded Market
Tianzifang’s little alleys are packed with shops, bars, and studios, each one fighting for attention. Somehow, they all survive, because each has its own style, its own crowd.
Here, I’ll write about blog niche strategy, and how to stand out in a saturated field by embracing your unique angle and not trying to appeal to everyone.
7. Lujiazui – The Business Side of Blogging That No One Talks About
Looking up at the skyscrapers of Shanghai’s financial district, I’m reminded that blogging isn’t just creative work, it’s business.
From this spot, I’ll write a practical post about treating your blog like a business, monetization models, outsourcing, branding, and long-term planning.
Final Thoughts
Sometimes, we wait for inspiration to find us. But this week, I went out and found it myself, through the streets, buildings, and energy of the city I live in.
If you’re stuck or tired of writing the same types of posts, try changing your environment. Explore your city, visit new places, or just take your laptop somewhere different. You don’t need a flight ticket. Sometimes, your next big content idea is just a subway ride away.
I’ll be documenting parts of this journey on my blog and maybe even recording a podcast episode or two from these locations. If you’ve got a favorite spot in your city that always sparks ideas, I’d love to hear about it too.
Let’s keep blogging better, together.
